The X-Factor

Die folgenden Worte und das erste Foto sind für die nachstehend genannten Gruppen uninteressant:

1. Solche die selbst kein iPhone benutzen bzw sich für die Anschaffung eines solches nicht interessieren.

2. Eingefleischte Android/Samsung etc. Nutzer.

3. Solche, die mit völligem Unverständnis, Kopfschütteln und mit den üblichen logisch/vernünftigen Einwänden reagieren, warum der Kauf eines iPhones und die Unterstützung der Firma Apple mit ihren völlig überteuerten Geräten komplett bescheuert ist. Ich kenne alle Argumente und stimme Euch bei den meisten zu. Danke.

3. Those who react with the usual WTF and shaking of heads when they hear about people who spend a boatload of money to buy iPhones or support Apple and their completely overpriced stuff in general. I hear you. I know all the pros and cons. Thank you.

DAS NEUE X IST DA!

Allen die jetzt noch hiergeblieben sind und nicht schon auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt sind, muss ich ja nicht erklären, was das X ist. Für alle neugierigen Unwissenden: es handelt sich um das brandneue iPhone 10.

Ich bin ein Apple Jünger. (Jedenfalls was den Smartphone Sektor angeht.) Ich gehöre zu der Fraktion, die sich (wenn machbar) alle zwei Jahre ein neues zulegt.

Das 7er habe ich übersprungen, nun ging es um die Entscheidung: kaufe ich ein 8er (was rein optisch so ausgesehen hätte wie mein 6s+ bzw. das 7s+, aber mit neuerer Technik), oder gehe ich gleich in die Vollen, lege noch ein wenig drauf, und kaufe gleich das "Jubiläums-iPhone" (das Beste Smartphone von Allen feiert seinen 10. Geburtstag, X = Römische Zahl 10).

Ich kenne mich selbst zu gut. Es hat nicht lange gedauert, bis ich zu der für mich einzig möglichen Entscheidung kam.

Und nun ist es da. Und es ist etwas kleiner als die bisherige 6er/7er-Plus Serie. Dafür fällt aber die Umrandung weg und die Front des Telefons besteht quasi nur aus Display. Welches somit ein wenig größer ist, als bei den Vorgängern bzw. der 8er Serie.

Trotzdem muss ich mich erst mal ein wenig umgewöhnen. War ich doch immer der absolute Verfechter von großen Smartphones. Aber ein kleineres Format hat natürlich auch seine Vorteile, und wenn das Display sogar größer ist, klang das für mich erst mal gut.

Die Gesichtserkennung zum Entsperren ließ sich völlig problemlos einrichten und funktioniert (bisher) einwandfrei. Die Beste Freundin von Allen musste als Testobjekt herhalten: ihr Gesicht wurde nicht erkannt, das Telefon nicht entsperrt.

Das Entsperren per Gesicht hat auch den Vorteil, dass man nicht jedes Mal den Zahlencode eintippen muss. Schön nicht übel.

Der Homebutton ist entfallen, man muss jetzt von unten wischen um zum Homebildschirm zu gelangen, und auch, um offene Apps zu schließen. Man gewöhnt sich sehr schnell daran.

Das Display ist natürlich hochauflösend und brillant, so wie man das vom iPhone ja eh gewohnt ist.

Es gibt noch so einige Neuerungen, die muss ich mir aber erst mal erarbeiten, ich kann an dieser Stelle noch nicht viel dazu sagen. Die Kamera ist auf jeden Fall zu den Vorgängern noch mal verbessert (heißt es). Ob das stimmt, werde ich sicher sehr bald rausfinden.

THE NEW X HAS ARRIVED!

For those of you who didn't go off to the Christmas market: I guess I don't have to explain to you what the X is. However, for the nosey ones among you who are still here: I'm of course talking about the brand new iPhone 10. (X = roman number 10). The Best Smartphone of All celebrates its 10th birthday this year, thus the 10. The regular series continues with 8 though. The 8 series looks on the outside like the 6 and 7 series, but has new features.

I've thought for a bit whether to get an 8 for a lower price or go right for the X. I know myself very well and so it wasn't really a hard decision.

And now it's here. And it is smaller than the 6-8 series. On the outside. However, the "frame" is gone, so is the home button, and the complete front is now display. Which means: while the phone is smaller, the display is larger.

Normally I'm a sucker for large phones. But only because of the large displays. And a smaller phone surely has some benefits and when the display is even larger, there's not much to argue.

There are of course quite some new features and I haven't found them all out yet or haven't tested them all.

The facial recognition to unlock the phone is easy to install and works perfectly fine. It's definitely great to not having to punch in the numeral code all the time to unlock it. I handed the phone to the BFF and her face wasn't recognized so no unlocking. Fine! Since the Homebutton is gone, you have to swipe from bottom to top to get to the apps and to close the apps. It needs a bit to get used to but that doesn't take long.

It's said that the camera is majorly improved. Well... we'll see. I'll definitely find out soon.

Essen City bei Nacht. Ähm, Abend. Vielmehr Spätnachmittag...

The city of Essen by night. Err... evening. Late afternoon, to be exact.

Wir leben jetzt leider in einer Welt, wo wir unsere Veranstaltungen in Innenstädten mit Betonklötzen vor Terroristen mit LKW schützen müssen. Wobei ich ernsthaft bezweifle, dass dies wirklich "schützt". Wenn sie nicht mit dem LKW durchkommen, finden sie eine andere Lösung. Es gibt keine 100%ige Sicherheit. Ob ich Angst habe, auf Weihnachtsmärkte zu gehen? Nein! Zu Hause bleiben ist ganz sicher keine Option. Aber so ganz aus dem Hinterkopf bekommt man diese Gedanken leider auch nicht.

We now live in a world where we have to protect events in cities with concrete blocks to prevent terrorists from driving trucks into pedestrian zones and killing people. I highly doubt though, that this will make us safer. Because if they can't use trucks, they'll find another way. There's no 100% safety nowhere. Am I afraid to visit Christmas markets or other big events? No! And staying home is NO option. But you can't get it out of the back of your mind completely either.

Essen, the Shopping Town

Wir hatten bisher wirklich Glück, dass es auf den von uns besuchten Märkten nicht völlig überlaufen war. Mag heute dran gelegen haben, dass es ein Montag war, und kein Samstag. Oder dass das Wetter nicht so schön war. Ob's an der Nachrichtenmeldung über einen geplanten (aber vereitelten) Anschlag auf den Essener Markt gelegen hat... man weiß es nicht. Aber eigentlich glaube ich das nicht.

We were lucky so far that the markets we've visited weren't as crazy packed as usual. One reason today might have been that it was a regular Monday and not a Saturday or Sunday. Or because the weather wasn't good. If the recent news report about a possibly planned (but thwarted) attack on the market in Essen had anything to do with it... don't know. But I don't really think so.

Nicht mehr ganz so perfekt wie noch vor einigen Jahren, aber immer noch einer der besten: der Eierpunsch an der Bude vor dem Kinderkarussell.

Not as perfect as it used to be a few years ago, but still among the best: the egg nog from the stand opposite the carousel.

Soviel kann ich zumindest schon mal sagen: ich habe keines dieser Bilder im Nachhinein bearbeitet, wie ich das sonst immer mache. Ob das schon ein Indiz für die bessere Kameraqualität ist, weiß ich noch nicht.

What I can say right now is that I didn't have to edit any of the photos here, like I normally do. If that's already an indication for the improved camera... I don't now yet.
