Zunächst wünsche ich Euch allen einen wunderschönen 1. Advent. Ich weiß nicht wie es bei Euch so aussieht, aber bei uns hier hat es passend zur Jahreszeit und zum Anlass geschneit, Velbert ist weiß gezuckert, und ausnahmsweise finde ich das mal nicht nervig sondern wirklich klasse!
Im Grunde mag ich ja Schnee. Nur eben nicht, wenn man dran ist mit Schnee schippen vorm Haus um 6 Uhr morgens, wenn man eine Stunde eher aufstehen muss, um das Auto freizuschaufeln, wenn einem die aufgetürmten Schneemassen eh schon knappe Parkplätze wegnehmen, und wenn das dringend notwenidge Fahren mit dem Auto trotz Winterreifen zur Schlitterpartie werden kann. Heute trifft aber von all dem nichts zu. Und man könnte sogar vorsichtig von einer weißen Weihnacht träumen. Der ultimative Traum-Traum eines jeden Winter- und Weihnachtsliebhabers.
Heute Morgen hat jemand in meiner Instagram Timeline ein Foto vom Flughafen gepostet, mit dem Hinweis, dass es jetzt erst mal in den Urlaub und in die Sonne nach Agypten geht. Ein mir völlig abwegiges Konzept. Im Dezember in ein warmes Land fliegen. Geht GAR nicht. (Ich fliege nicht mal im Sommer in ein warmes Land, aber das ist eine völlig andere Geschichte). Aber gut, jedem das Seine, natürlich.
Zurück zu gestern. Einem Tag, den wir fast vollständig im Landschaftspark-Nord in Duisburg verbracht haben und an dessen Ende ich so müde war, dass an ein Posten dieses Artikels nicht mehr zu denken war.
Der Landschaftspark-Nord wurde 1991 errichtet, und zwar auf dem Gelände eines ehemaligen Hüttenwerks mit vielen inzwischen stillgelegten Industrieanlagen. Diese Anlagen werden nach Anbruch der Dunkelheit dank kreativer Lichtinstallationen in buntes Licht getaucht. Es ist vor allem auch deshalb ein Mekka für Fotografen. Aber natürlich nicht nur für die. Der Park lohnt sich immer für einen Spaziergang. Der Anblick der alten Hallen, Hochöfen, Waggons, Maschinen gepaart mit der Natur ist äußerst interessant. Der Park ist übrigens rund um die Uhr zugänglich, der Eintritt ist frei, Parkplätze sind in ausreichender Zahl vorhanden.
An jedem ersten Wochenende im Dezember findet hier auch der sogenannte Schauinsland-Lichtermarkt statt (der Reiseveranstalter Schauinsland ist hier Sponsor). Es gibt viele Stände draußen, und den großen Lichtermarkt in der Kraftzentrale des stillgelegten Meidericher Hüttenwerks. Im letzten Jahr waren wir zum ersten Mal dort und extrem begeistert. Der Eintritt in die Kraftzentrale kostet 4 Euro, aber das ist sehr gut investiertes Geld. An den vielen Ständen gibt es ausschließlich Handwerkskunst, und zwar aus allen möglichen Bereichen. Von der Holz- über die Schmuck- Stoffe- Buchbinder- Papierschöpf- Skulpturen- Fotografiekunst bis hin zu Selbstgemachtem fürs leibliche Wohl ist für jeden Geschmack und Geldbeutel etwas dabei.
Dazu gibt's natürlich die üblichen Ess- und Getränkestände. Außerdem eine Bühne, auf der laufend Livemusik präsentiert wird. Mal weihnachtlich, mal klassisch, mal ein Bläser-Ensemble, mal ein Kinderchor. Ein bunt gemischtes Programm, welches eine schöne aber nicht störende Untermalung für das Stöbern in den Gängen ist. Oder aber man setzt sich im Bühnenbereich auf einen der Stühle vor der Bühne oder an einen der vielen Tische, um sich zu stärken oder die müden Füße zu entspannen und einer der Darbietungen auf der Bühne zu lauschen.
Und wenn's dann dunkel ist, kommen die erleuchteten Buden draußen, sowie die erleuchteten Bäume und Industrieanlagen im Hintergrund erst so richtig zur Geltung.

Duisburg Lights
First of all I'm wishing you a happy 1st Advent Sunday. I don't know what the weather is where you live, but over here we got some snow overnight. Right on time for the season. And for once I'm ot mad at it.
Look, I really like snow. However, there are times when I clearly hate it. That's when it's my turn to shovel snow at 6 in the morning, when it takes ages to free my car from snow before I have to drive to work, when heaps of snow piled up at the sides of the street prevent you from getting a parking spot or when driving even with winter tires is a very slippery thing. Today though none of this is important and I truly enjoy the white landscape outside. Makes you even dream of a White Christmas... the winter- and xmas-lovers absolute dream-dream!
Today, someone in my Instagram timeline posted a photo of the airport with the caption that they are looking forward to their sunny vacation in Egypt. Seriously: that's a complete foreign concept to me. Flying to a hot and sunny country in Decemeber. WTF? (Okay, I don't even fly to hot and sunny countries in summer, but that's a whole different conversation). But each to their own, of course!
Back to tomorrow, when we spent almost all day at the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and where I was too damn tired to post an article when I got home.
Landschaftspark (Landscape Park) is a public park located in Duisburg-Meiderich, Germany. It was designed in 1991 by Latz + Partner (Peter Latz), with the intention that it work to heal and understand the industrial past, rather than trying to reject it. The park closely associates itself with the past use of the site: a coal and steel production plant (abandoned in 1985) (Source: Wikipedia)
In the evenings, visitors can experience the highlight of the Landscape Park; that is when the British artist Jonathan Park's light installation immerses the old ironworks in a fascinating sea of light and color. The light installation is restricted to the technical installations at the heart of the ironworks, covering an area of some 15 hectares and illuminating the steel structures, pipes, equipment, steps and bridges of the old industrial plant. On every 1st weekend in December the park hosts the so called "Schauinsland-Lichtermarkt" (Schauinsland is a travel agency and the sponsor, Lichtermarkt means Light Market).
We've been there for the first time last year and loved it. So much! It's partly outside (entrace free) and partly inside one of the former large industrial buildings. Entry is 4 Euro there but they are VERY well spent. At the large number of stands you only find handmade goods and art. From woodwork to steelwork, sewed goods, jewelry, handmade Christmas deco, cards, books, paper, photography, sculptures, or homemade food items. For each taste and budget there's something to find.
Of course there are several stands with food and beverages. There's a stage and live music all through the day. Sometimes Christmas-sy, sometimes classical, sometimes pop, sometimes a children choir, or a brass ensenble... here, as well, there's something for everyone. The music is a nice background when you are strolling along the stands with goods. Or you can go over to the stage area and have a seat in front of the stage or at one of the large tables and have a bite to eat and rest your feet and enjoy one or more performance (they change every 30 minutes).
Once it is dark, the stands outside are shining bright against the light installtion of the park.
It has got to be one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the region. If you're into this kind of thing you shouldn't miss it.
