Thank You, Jinjer!

Dies ist ein Dankeschön an meine liebe Freundin Jinjer, deshalb fange ich heute mal auf Englisch an. Die deutsche Version gibt's diesmal am Ende des Artikels.

This post is dedicated to my friend Jinjer and therefore I'll start in English this time.

So yesterday I had a notification in my mailbox about a delivery. A package. I wasn't at home when the mailman wanted to drop it, and so I had to pick it up at the post office. Which isn't a problem since the post office is a 5 minute walk from my house. It's just that I had no clue what kind of package that could be. I hadn't ordered anything anywhere. At least not that I could remember. Yes I'm getting old and I might forget the one or other incident. But I hardly forget orders I've placed.

And so today I was very curious what the guy at the post office would come up with. I saw the name of the sender right away when he placed it on the counter. It was from you, dear Jinjer :-)

Wow! That was a very big surprise because I hadn't expected to get anything from you.

On my walk back home I thought that this was maybe a kind of "gift in return" of my package that I had sent to you recently. I checked the sending date on the package and tried to remember when it was that you mailed me with the notification that you got my package. I couldn't remember.

Didn't matter.

For a second I thought that it could maybe also be a birthday present, but then I pushed that thought aside. It was still 10 days until that. If we send each other packages for birthdays and Christmas, they never ever arrive on time 😃. And there's the thing with normally sending Amazon, so... This had to be something different 😊

Finally at home, I couldn't wait to unpack. (A sharp knife was needed to get through all that duct tape ;-) ).

Awww! Two gifts. And I immediately recognized the wrapping paper from something you've sent to one of your Litsy pals. Love it! 😊 A card and also what I supposed was a letter. Again it reminded me of what I had sent to you (and this is not to say 'oh look, she did the same' but to explain why that other option never occured to me).

As instructed, I began with opening the presents. First I unpacked the beautiful London themed wallet which is really cool and will fo sho be my companion on my next trip to London. You can count on that! 😃

Second gift was a book. I had almost expected it to be a book, so that wasn't the biggest surprise. But of course I was VERY curious what you had chosen. I've got to say that I don't remember talking about that very book in emails (please forgive me!) but after reading the synopsis it sounded very interesting to me and I was not surprised that you mentioned in your letter, that I had said as much in an email.

And then I opened the card first. Birthday Wishes. 😳 Damn!! That had not been a "return package", that had been a birthday package. And you had surely hoped that I would take the presents to my vacation spot and open them on my birthday.

But my concern now wasn't really about the typical German paranoia to not receive birthday wishes/presents before the actual birthday. It was more that you could say "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! B-TCH PLEASE! 🙄YOU WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO OPEN THIS!!! WASN'T IT CLEAR THAT IT WAS FOR YOUR F-ING BIRTHDAY???".

Please be assured that I didn't freak out and not had the immediate urge to wrap everything again, pretend that nothing had happened and re-open it on my birthday. As I said... it's still a good while until then and also I didn't EXPECT it to be a birthday package, so... everything's okay. ;-) I just hope you're not disappointed.

The wrapping paper, which is perfect for the book lover that I am, the cute London wallet, the beautiful birthday card and also your words in that lovely letter. Yes of course it's fine that you've sent an English book. If I read printed books, I prefer English ones since English audio books are often a bit hard to follow, so I prefer actual reading here. I will let you know my thoughts when I've read it.

So: Thanks again for making this day even more wonderful than it already is ❤️ 💝❤️ (because it's the first day of my two-week vacation)!!!

The Heart of the Day is a bit of a stretch today. It could also be the Smiling-Cat-With-One-Eye Face of the Day. However... my very first impression was that of a heart-of-sorts. Saw it on my way home from the post office after picking up a lovely surprise present.

Das Herz des Tages mag heute etwas weit hergeholt sein. Es könnte auch die Einäugige-Grinse-Katze des Tages sein. Egal. Mein allererster Eindruck war der eines quasi-Herzens. Entdeckt auf dem Heimweg vom Postamt, wo ich ein wunderschönes Überraschungspaket abgeholt habe

So, hier nun, für alle, die die englische Version nicht verstanden haben: Gestern hatte ich eine Benachrichtigung vom Postboten im Briefkasten über ein Paket, welches er mir nicht zustellen konnte, da ich nicht zu Hause war. Recht neugierig machte ich mich heute auf zum Postamt, denn ich konnte mich nicht erinnern, irgendwo irgend etwas bestellt zu haben. Auch wenn ich langsam alt und schon mal vergesslich werde... wenn ich etwas bestelle, vergesse ich das normalerweise nicht.

Dann aber sah ich den Absender, als der Postbeamte das Paket auf die Theke legte. Es war von meiner lieben Freundin Jinjer aus den USA!

Mein erster Gedanke war, dass sie mir dieses Paket schickte, um sich zu revanchieren, hatte ich ihr doch vor nicht all zu langer Zeit selbst eins geschickt. Ohne Grund... einfach so. Der Gedanke, dass es auch ein Geburtstagspaket sein könnte, kam mir erst mal nicht. Der Geburtstag ist noch 10 Tage hin, und normalerweise schenken wir uns Amazon-Gutscheine. Und wenn wir mal Pakete schicken - ob zum Geburtstag oder Weihnachten - kommen die grundsätzlich zu spät an. Das musste also einen anderen Grund haben.

Zu Hause angekommen, benötigte ich ein sehr scharfes Messer, um mich duch das Paketklebeband durchzuarbeiten, aber dann lagen zwei sehr hübsch verpackte Päckchen, eine Karte und ein Brief vor mir. Letzterer mit der Anweisung, zunächst die Geschenke zu öffnen.

Zum Vorschein kam eine Geldbörse im coolen London Design, welche mich ganz ganz sicher auf meinem nächsten London-Trip begleiten wird! Außerdem ein Buch, über welches wir offensichtlich mal in einer E-Mail gesprochen haben. Sie ist eine eben so begeisterte und eifrige Leserin wie ich, und wir unterhalten uns eigentlich ständig über Bücher.

Ich konnte mich zwar zunächst nicht an dieses bestimmte Buch erinnern. Beim Durchlesen des Inhalts verstand ich aber, warum ich mich in der E-Mail seinerzeit wohl interessiert geäußert hatte. Das Buch klingt in der Tat sehr interessant und ich freue mich schon drauf, es zu lesen. Denn wenn ich derzeit von meinen Hörbüchern abweiche, um gedruckte Bücher zu lesen, sind es meist Englisch sprachige.

Dann öffnete ich die Karte und mir war klar, dass dies kein Revanchier-Päckchen war, sondern eindeutig eins zum bevorstehenden Geburtstag. Jinjer hatte wohl gehofft, es würde rechtzeitig ankommen, so dass ich es mit in Urlaub nehmen, und am tatsächlichen Geburtstag auspacken würde.

Wir hier in Deutschland sind ja durchaus ein wenig eigen, wenn es darum geht, Geburtstagskindern vorzeitig zu gratulieren, und auch ich mag das überhaupt nicht. Jinjer als Amerikanerin steht der ganzen Sache ein wenig belustigt gegenüber, sind die Amerikaner (oder auch der Rest der Welt) in dieser Hinsicht völlig locker und sehen darin nicht das geringste Problem. Aber sie respektiert mich und mein typisches Deutsch sein da völlig 😉.

Wahrscheinlich denkt sie jetzt, ich hätte doch nun wirklich wissen müssen, dass es sich natürlich um ein Geburtstagsgeschenk handeln muss und hat deswegen überhaupt nicht damit gerechnet, dass ausgerechnet ich so etwas vorzeitig öffnen würde. Keine Sorge, Jinjer. Alles gut. Bin nicht in Panik ausgebrochen, hab's auch nicht wieder neu verpackt, nur um es in 10 Tagen erneut auszupacken 😃

Ich habe mich wahnsinnig gefreut. Überraschungspäckchen sind die Besten! Und wenn sie auch noch Bücher beinhalten, erst recht.
